This song started off as dark ambient sounds I was creating in a gypsy loft surrounded by my gypsy friends in 2013. This birthed its original title “Gypsies in the Dark.” Eventually I added field recordings that I had recorded in the jungles of Costa Rica in 2015, and changed the track to “Gypsies in the Jungle.” By the time the base track was finished, most of the original sounds had been removed, except for one dark drone sound that permeates throughout the whole track, and “Drones in the Jungle” came to its true form.

Once “Drones in the Jungle” had developed its fundamental form, I actually struggled with it more than any of the other songs that ended up on the album. It was always meant to follow “Deeper” and I considered making it a pure drone track and dropping the glitchy beats as I was not confident in its directionless structure. The few people who heard my first demo in 2016 responded quite well though, so I kept the beats and added more layers to really push the growing tension. Once I added bass to it I realized that’s what it had been strongly missing, and I decided to slowly leak in a pre-guitar sound to lead into the following track “Blood Pressure.” The song now felt like it deserved its place on the album, and serves as an authentic expression of the tension that transitions “Falling” into “Running.”
